Silybum marianum

Digestive tonic, mucilage, hepatic, galactagogue, demulcent, cholagogue, antihepatotoxic, antioxidant.  

Traditional Uses:

Excellent promoter of milk secretion. Safe to use when breastfeeding. May also help to promote the flow of bile from the liver and gall bladder. Assists in fighting hepatitis and cirrhosis of the liver. May repair liver damage. May be used when poisoning has occurred such as with paraffin or poisonous mushrooms (but must be administered immediately) and is useful for toxin such as alcohol and environmental pollutants  

Directions to use:

Infusion: Pour 1 cup of boiling water onto 1 teaspoon of dried leaves. Infuse for 10-15min. Drink three times per day.
